When talking about our stainless steel water bottle customization, there is always a very important key point-bottle surface finish. We support to customize different artwork on our water bottle surface, no matter it’s simple spray painting, powder coating, air transfer printing or water transfer printing, there will be a worldwide problem-color difference.

Ideal solution to avoid big color difference is to get a real sample of stainless steel water bottle. But in fact, most clients cannot offer a bottle sample. They may offer a paper color swatch or a Pantone color number for our reference. It’s a feasible way to handle with. But in actual water bottle order, there are still some problems.

Let’s take sampling according to Pantone color number as an example. We have a client who runs a new start-up. She gave us a Pantone color number and asked us to make a stainless steel tumbler sample for her according to the Pantone color number she offered. When sample was finished, she called us, and said “oh, my God, that is totally different color!” After we shew her photo and video with Pantone formula guide book beside the tumbler, she told us she made a mistake, as she chose the Pantone color number on computer, not on Pantone formula guide book. After that she bought a Pantone formula guide book as a reference. But with new Pantone color number from Pantone formula guide book there is color difference too.

As you know, Pantone formula guide book has solid coated and solid uncoated. Solid coated means gloss finish, solid uncoated means matte finish. If you choose matte coating on stainless steel water bottle, we recommend you to use Pantone formula guide solid uncoated number. If you choose gloss coating on stainless steel water bottle, we recommend you to use Pantone formula guide solid coated number. By this way, we can decrease the color difference in maximum. Otherwise if you choose Pantone formula guide solid coated number used on matte finish of stainless steel water bottle, there is surely some color difference. Following photo is the comparison for 185C and 185U red color, you can see there is some difference.

Except above mentioned, there is also another key point for color difference. Pantone formula guide book is printed on white color paper. But our stainless steel water bottle and stainless steel tumbler surface is silver color(stainless steel color). When make coating on silver surface, there is definitely color difference compared to Pantone formula guide book which is printed on white color paper. To solve this problem in maximum, we find a solution, that is to make a white coating first, then make another specified color coating.

For example, following 185C red color, the left mate cup is with only 1 layer coating-185C red color coating. The right cola bottle is 2 layers coating, the 1st layer is white color coating, and the 2nd layer is 185C red color coating. From the picture you can see the left mate cup with 1 layer coating the red looks darker than the right cola bottle with 2 layers coating. Obviously, the right cola bottle color is more close to Pantone color number 185C, it’s nearly same. For some clients who have a high requirement on color difference, it’s a perfect solution, but meanwhile the coating cost is double.

In the last, the color difference is always existing. Unless you get the real sample to compare, otherwise if you check on computer, on mobile phone, or on video, there is surely color difference.

From above, you will find the importance to make sample for confirmation before mass production for stainless steel water bottle and stainless steel tumbler.
