Recently, one of our clients asks us if our stainless steel tumblers and stainless steel water bottles are all lead free. That is a very good question. Frankly speaking, some design of tumblers and bottles are lead free, some are not.
1. Look at following photo, they are two stainless steel water bottle bottoms, and they are similar bottom. The left pink bottom is with red color coating. The right stainless steel bottom is without coating, so you can see that black dot. If with color coating, that black dot will be covered by color coating. Actually, there is minor lead existing in this black dot no matter it is cover by coating or not. Even covered by coating, there is minor lead released. Therefore, with such design bottom, the stainless steel tumblers and stainless steel water bottles are not lead free.
2. Let’s look another photo in below. It’s different bottle bottom with previous one. Such bottom is with 2 layers. With such structure the black dot is covered by a stainless steel base and it’s inside the bottom, so there is no lead released. Therefore, with such design bottom, the stainless steel tumblers and stainless steel water bottles are lead free.
When you read above text, you may think and ask how to make it lead free if you choose the first design bottom. That is a critical question. We already have customers requiring to do so.
Let’s see following Starbucks bottle bottom. The center circle part we weld a stainless steel sheet to cover that black dot. By this way there is no lead released. It's lead free by such processing.
